About University of Texas
The University of Texas at Austin, located in Central Austin, north of the Texas State Capitol, is home to the famous Longhorns. The University of Texas at Austin is a reputable public university with one of the largest universities in the country with more than 50,000 students.
At the University of Texas at Austin, visitors can take tours of historic buildings that were on the original 40 acres that made up the university when it was founded in 1883. Along with historic buildings, the University of Texas has exhibitions for visitors at the Harry Ransom Center, the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center, and the Blanton Museum of Art. Most notably, the Harry Ransom Center is home to one of the only remaining copies of the complete Gutenberg Bible.
Other popular activities are sporting events. The University of Texas at Austin is well known for its athletic success. Football is the most popular sport for UT fans, with the Darrell K. Royal Texas Memorial Stadium holding more than 100,000 spectators. For visitors that are at UT when a team wins a national championship title, the University Tower can be seen lit up burnt orange with the number 1 on each side.
Finally, for those that would like to shop while visiting the University of Texas, Guadalupe Street, better known as "the drag," has several options. There are popular and independent retail stores and the University Co-op has numerous UT memorabilia and gifts.
